Craig playing in live Facebook stream this Saturday 28th!

Thu 26 Mar 2020

This week, London Mozart Players, the UK’s longest established chamber orchestra, launched ‘At Home with LMP’ an initiative that will help keep audiences connected to music by going virtual. ‘At Home with LMP’ will allow anyone to access and enjoy performances by LMP musicians and associated artists virtually, with a whole catalogue of daily musical treats to keep the music playing through the pandemic.

Launching the first of LMP’s ‘Saturday Sessions’, which will feature a new live Facebook stream each weekend, is acclaimed classical guitarist Craig Ogden who was due to perform the Rodrigo Guitar Concerto with LMP in two concerts this Spring at London’s South Bank Centre and Fairfield Halls, Croydon.

In a live Facebook stream from Craig’s home via London Mozart Players Facebook page at 7pm on Saturday 28th March, Craig will bring the soothing sounds of the classical guitar right into your living room with a relaxing performance of much-loved classics from the guitar repertoire, including music by Scarlatti, Dowland, Coste, Barrios and excerpts from Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.

With special thanks to London Mozart Players and Music on the Quantocks.

Coronavirus Update

Mon 23 Mar 2020

As you will all be aware, live performances are being cancelled. These are extraordinary times but fortunately for many people self-isolating or social distancing (as is absolutely vital to prevent an unmanageable crisis in the health system), there is the potential for huge connectivity with friends and family through the internet and access to music and all forms of art as well. I will be teaching online, posting videos of playing and with colleagues we are exploring the possibilities of live streaming performances, perhaps even of chamber music performed together but in separate places. We will see what technology can do! In the meantime, stay safe and stay well. Very best wishes to all of you. Craig PS. If there are any pieces of music you’d like me to play on video let me know!

Craig to step in at Stoller Hall this evening!

Tue 19 Nov 2019

Craig will be stepping in to help out the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet at their concert in Manchester’s The Stoller Hall this evening.

One of the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet members (Vasilis) has just had a baby in Greece with his Greek partner (congratulations!) and Vasilis is therefore unable to do the concert this evening, so the Quartet have asked Craig to fill in at very short notice. Craig has spent a day busily trying to learn all of Vasilis’s parts – 90 minutes of music!

This evening’s concert is connected to the 50th anniversary celebrations at Chetham’s School of Music. All of the AGQ members were students of Craig’s at the RNCM – Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and he also helped to introduce them to Chandos Records for whom they have released 4 or 5 CDs. Craig is extremely excited about having the chance to play in the quartet. They are four of the best guitarists he’s taught and their ensemble is incredibly tight.
