The Oulu Symphony celebrates the centenary of Sir Malcolm Arnold. Arnold, who died in 2006, is considered one of the most important English composers of the 20th century, regardless of genre. His extensive production covers a range of styles from concert halls to opera, ballet and of course films. He rose to the attention of the general public with his compositions for the classic film The Bridge on the River Kwai, for whose music he was awarded both an Oscar and a Grammy in 1957.
The concerts of the Oulu Symphony offer a unique opportunity to hear a comprehensive cross-section of Sir Malcolm Arnold’s diverse music. With the Northern Ostrobothnia tour, the next Chief Conductor of the orchestra, Rumon Gamba, will take an early start to his season with the program for which he is best known.

Following on from such a highly successful Guitarfest in 2019, we are returning with another exciting weekend combining great music in an area of outstanding natural beauty that inspires creativity. The stunning location by the sea makes for a perfect break from the hustle and bustle.
There will be concerts, a master class, workshops, ensemble playing, artists interviews and question & answer session, informal playing opportunities, cream tea, sea view dinners and lots of fun in a friendly environment.
Craig’s public concert is on Saturday 11 September 2021 at 8pm.

Craig Ogden, one of the most exciting and extensively recorded guitarists of his generation, joins leading cellist, Helen Thatcher, to perform world-class music with a Latin twist. Ogden is the youngest instrumentalist to have received a Fellowship Award from the Royal Northern College of Music, where he is now head of Guitar. Helen Thatcher is well known as a founder cellist of the Sorrel Quartet and the Erringden Ensemble.

Craig will be appearing on In Tune to talk about his new recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, arranged by violinist David Juritz. He will also be performing some of the variations with David and Tim Hugh (cello).
